Advanced/Saltwater Fly Casting

Sponsored by Concord Outfitters, West Concord, MA

Wulff Ambush

Join me and one of my advanced students to learn how to add distance and power to your cast while using less effort than you thought possible.

Beginning with the back cast, this comprehensive four-hour seminar will take you step by step through a practice program you can use to teach yourself how to cast longer and more powerfully while using much less effort than you are using today. You’ll cover in detail all essential concepts, mechanics, and techniques to make you a more accomplished caster in both salt water and fresh: Loading and unloading the rod; loop formation; drift and follow through; hauling; dealing with the four directions of wind.

The seminar runs from from 9 A.M. until 1 P.M. Tuition is $95 per angler, and attendance is limited to 8 participants. Students are expected to provide their own equipment: an 8- to 10-weight rod matched with a floating weight-forward line—no intermediate, sink-tips, or sinking lines.

This seminar is sure to sell out quickly, so contact Concord Outfitters today (978-318-0330) to reserve your spot.

My assistant instructor, Ken Washburn, has 50 years’ experience fly fishing in fresh water and salt. He’s caught everything from trout and Atlantic salmon to striped bass and bonefish.

Update: May 13th, 2017. The Saturday seminar is full. We’ve added a second seminar for Sunday, June 11th, from 9 A.M. until 1 P.M. If you’re interested, call Concord Outfitters today.

[Our thanks to all who attended. We hope you had as great a time as we did. Looking forward to future classes!]

Fundamentals of Fly Casting—Sponsored by Concord Outfitters, West Concord, MA

Join me and one of my advanced casting students for a seminar on the fundamentals of fly casting. With a focus on core concepts and techniques, you’ll learn everything you need to begin fishing with a fly rod—and catching fish—immediately.

Experienced fly anglers are also welcome to attend—particularly if you’ve never had formal instruction. We’ll accentuate the strengths you already possess, troubleshoot any difficulties you may be having, and help you build a solid fly casting stroke.

Concord Outfitters can supply all equipment. If you wish to use your own equipment, we suggest an 8 1/2- to 9-foot 5- or 6-weight rod outfitted with a floating weight-forward line. Include a tapered leader from 7 1/2 to 9 feet long tipped with a tuft of high-visibility yarn.

Tuition is $75. Attendance is limited to 6 students, making the instructor-to-student ratio 1:3. This ensures you’ll receive plenty of personal instruction.

The seminar will be held at the historic Wayside Inn in Sudbury, about a 30-minute drive from Concord, Massachusetts. This is the perfect location for a beginner’s seminar, as the Inn has a stocked trout pond on the property. After the seminar, feel free to spend some time trying to hook a trout (barbless hooks, catch-and-release only). If you haven’t been there before, the Tap Room at the Wayside Inn is a great place to grab lunch or dinner after the seminar.

The first seminar, which takes place from 9 A.M. until noon, is SOLD OUT. We’ve added a second seminar, which runs from 1 until 4, may still have one or two openings. To register, contact Concord Outfitters, (978) 318-0330.

My assistant instructor, Ken Washburn, has 50 years’ experience fly fishing in fresh water and salt. He’s caught everything from trout and Atlantic salmon to striped bass and bonefish.

[Our sincere thanks to all who attended. We hope you had as great a time as we did!]
